Barbican Art Gallery

“I went with some reservations, a lot of prejudiced, and muddled preconceptions about Gill’s life and work. But this exhibition does what a good exhibition should: it both delights the eye and stimulates the mind. It also presents with great clarity the personality of the artist within the context of his creative life.”The Telegraph

Eric Gill was a celebrated stone-carver, engraver and letter-cutter, as well as a prolific speaker on artistic, social and theological topics. His approach to work and art have had a deep influence on British cultural life.

This exhibition documented the range of Gill’s sculptural work, from the early sculptures of the mother and child and two early reliefs from Gill’s first show, to his major war memorials, his work for London Transport and his renowned architectural sculpture for Broadcasting House.

The exhibition was selected by artist Peter Blake as one of his ‘Best nights out of the year’ in The Daily Telegraph.

The exhibition catalogue was shortlisted for the British Book Design and Production awards, 1993.
