Formula One - The great design race

Formula One - The great design race

1 July - 29 October 2006
Design Museum
Co-curated with Alicia Pivaro

"This was the show that opened when I first got to the Design Museum 10 years ago. Morag Myerscough did a great job of designing it, Damon Hill opened it and Donna Loveday, the co-curator, managed to persuade Bernie Ecclestone to let us use the word Formula One in the title - a truly powerful combination.”

An exhibition presenting the story of one of the most popular sports in the world. Featuring a range of iconic cars exploring the design innovations at the heart of Formula One, from its beginnings in the 1950s. Teams represented included Ferrari, Honda, McLaren, Red Bull, Renault, Toyota and Williams. An ‘exploded’ Championship-winning car gave visitors a rare opportunity to experience at close quarters the design and technology behind a Formula One car.

The exhibition subsequently toured to Budapest, Tokyo and Wellington.

The exhibition was awarded ‘Best Temporary Exhibition’ at the Design Week Awards 2006.
